The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

How To Survive The Holidays Without Losing Your Mind

We've officially entered the holiday season. You know it if you've tried to step into almost any store (that started putting out Christmas decorations before Halloween). The holidays are a time for family, friends, and celebrating. They’re also a time when people can feel the most stressed out and overwhelmed. If you’re struggling to keep your head above water this holiday season, here are a few tips on how to survive the holidays without losing your mind.

1. Set realistic expectations.

The holidays are often seen as this idyllic time where everything is perfect. Families get along perfectly, there’s never any drama, and everyone is in good spirits. But that’s not always reality. If you set your expectations too high, you’re bound to be disappointed. Don’t put pressure on yourself or your loved ones to create this picture-perfect holiday scene. Instead, focus on what’s important and let go of the rest.

2. Make time for yourself.

The holidays can be hectic and chaotic. There are parties to attend, presents to buy, and food to make. It can be easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and forget about taking care of yourself. But it’s important to make time for yourself, even if it’s just 10 minutes a day. Take a long bath, read your favorite book, or take a walk outside. Whatever brings you joy, make sure you schedule some “me time” into your busy holiday schedule.

3. Simplify where you can.

One of the best ways to reduce stress during the holidays is to simplify where you can. If cooking a big holiday dinner is overwhelming, order takeout or potluck with friends or family. If gift-giving is stressing you out, set a budget or make homemade gifts instead of spending hours (and money) shopping. Simplifying wherever possible will help you focus on what’s truly important this holiday season.

4. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Let’s face it: sometimes things go wrong during the holidays. The turkey may get burnt, Grandma might accidentally offend Uncle Bob, or you may end up forgetting to buy batteries for all those toys the kids just have to have on Christmas morning. It happens! Don’t sweat the small stuff and just roll with the punches. After all, that’s what the holidays are all about – spending time with the people you love, even when things don’t go according to plan."

5. Give yourself a break!

The holidays are supposed to be fun… so don’t forget to enjoy yourself! Give yourself a break from work, from social media, from thinking about New Year’s resolutions… and just relax! Enjoy quality time with friends and family and make memories that will last a lifetime."

This holiday season, don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself or your loved ones – set realistic expectations, take some time for yourself every day, simplify where possible, and don't sweat the small stuff if things go wrong! Most importantly,...don't forget to have fun and enjoy this special time of year!"
